LIVING HISTORY PASSING THE TORCH OF LIBERTY ON TO FUTURE GENERATIONS
QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER VOL. 3 NO. 1, NOVEMBER 2017
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
In 1995, a group of WWII Veterans, led by Jack Hammett, sought to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII, by telling their stories in meetings to remind the next generation of the sacrifices made by our United States Armed Forces to preserve democracy at home and abroad. At first, they met in local coffee shops, then held monthly meetings at the Costa Mesa Historical Society. By 2010 they outgrew that facility and moved to the Costa Mesa Neighborhood Center on Park Ave. From monthly meetings with 35-45 attendees, the FCOC Community meetings grew to over 120 attendees. As the audience grew, so grew the need for a larger room, for sound systems, microphones, receivers, transmitters, and projectors and projector screens. But in the autumn of 2016 the city gave notice that our neighborhood meeting place would be demolished and rebuilt during a three-year construction project.
